the Arts Council for Long Beach launches “Keep Arts Working”, a series of events and art commissions that seeks to illuminate the vital work being created amid the COVID-19 pandemic response, alleviate anxiety from our minds and bodies through the arts, and begin to recuperate the creative economy.

I was commissioned to create a series of illustrations in response to the recent pandemic. The goal of the project was to encourage residents to flatten the curve by staying at home and practicing social distancing. I based my background research on health and wellness information offered by public health organizations, specifically a self-care resource guide by Cynthia Medina, PhD. of University California Berkley. Figurative imagery was inspired and referenced from international dance champion, Jennifer Tehani Sarreal.

Concept

Like potted plants who are waiting to get transplanted back in the garden, we are in our own self sustaining environment for the time being. In this reflective moment we are still in need of love, attention, care, and connection with one another.

Series is made available in Spanish, Khmer, and English.
